6. ARTIFY 10 Pieces Paint Brush Set
If you’re looking for the complete set, this one is probably the one to get. Artify did not hold anything back with this set. Let’s get into what they’ve managed to deliver here.
First thing first, this set (as you can probably tell from the name) has 10 brushes. They come in all different shapes and sizes.
That’s not all. The shapes and sizes aren’t randomly thrown in.
They’re specially selected to make sure it covers most use cases and doesn’t limit you in any way. You get a round fan brush, flat brush, liners, and more.
Where do you store all these brushes? Well, in the convenient (and included) case, of course.
What did you think? They’d give you 10 brushes and not a way of carrying them? The case itself is durable and high-quality.
Unlike other products, the ferrules on this one are pretty tight and will not come off anytime soon. We also love how well made the bristles are.
They are made from high-quality nylon, which means you don’t have to deal with them falling out anytime soon.
- Full-featured set
- Made from durable materials
- High-quality carrying case included
- Waterproof thanks to the 3-layered coating
- Might be overkill for some painters
7. U.S. Art Supply 15 Pieces Brush Set
Yes, we know what you’re thinking. This set has more brushes compared to the previous one.
That is true. Although the quantity is great, we feel this might be unnecessary in some use cases. But more on that a bit late.
Let’s take a look at how the quality is.
Starting with the bristles, they’re made from the same high-quality nylon. As you have noticed, a lot of bristles are actually made from nylon.
This minimizes their chances of getting damaged and stops fraying. And that is a major worrying issue for some painters.
Of course, you get 15 variants of brushes. There are a lot of different types and should have you covered for everything you might need to do. That is all great.
But if you are anything less than a serious hardcore painter, these many are not really needed all the time.
You also get a zipper bag to carry them. The case is somewhat bulky but is made well to tackle day-to-day wear and tear. A cool feature of the case we like is the pop-up stand.
Thus, you can prop it up at an angle, which makes it easier to access. This makes it easy to find which brush you need, and you don’t need to fiddle around on a table.
- A lot of brushes
- High-quality bristles
- Tough carrying case
- Too bulky
8. OOKU Paint Brush Set
OOKU is perhaps one of the most underrated brands on this list. Not many know about this brand.
And we love an underdog. So, how do their products compare? Turns out, pretty well.
The bristles are made to take care of stray hairs or shedding. They are made from nylon and what keeps them attached are aluminum ferrules.
These ferrules feature a crumpled design technique, which further secures them in position.
You can use this for painting with a lot of different paints. Whether you want to paint your next masterpiece using watercolor, acrylic, or gouache, you can do so.
If you have transcended the normal canvas and want to move your skills to try out body painting or face painting, guess what?
Yep, these brushes are perfect for the job. The handles are pretty sleek and premium. We love the natural wood color. There is just something raw about the whole look.
They’re lightweight and sit comfortably on the hand. That, in turn, incites confidence. The natural hand-feel of these brushes is probably what many others lack.
- Natural wood design
- The handle is comfortable
- Durable bristles
- 8 included brushes
- We aren’t that much of a fan of the included pouch
9. WA Portman Gouache Brush Set
This is yet another set of 15 pieces. However, we aren’t all that sure about the quality of this one. Let’s tell you what we mean.
There are some cool fringe features like a pop-upstand on the case and a wide range of brushes. These brushes work well with different paints too.
So, you can use it with acrylic, watercolor, and gouache.
Whether you are a child who is just picking up painting as a hobby or an adult who’s a bit more serious about painting, this works pretty well for both.
The problem, though, is we can’t find a feature that particularly stands out on this one.
Except for the large collection, the bristles, carrying case, and all are very similar to some of our other models. One cool thing is the handles are very long. It makes it easy to hold and paint, thanks to it.
All in all, this is a good set but nothing that caught our attention all that much.
- Good quality bristles
- Long handles
- Full-featured set
- Excellent carrying case
- Suitable for all ages
- No standout features
10. DunGu Artist Brushes
Last but not least, we have these DunGu ones. This is a portable set that includes a palette too. Unfortunately, the palette might be its only special feature.
That is because, like our previous one, this DunGu also does not seem to be very impressive. It covers the basics pretty well, and that’s about it. Don’t get us wrong, though.
The brushes themselves are pretty good. Plus, the bristles are made from nylon. Those are held in place with gold plated ferrules. We guess the gold accent makes it look a bit more premium.
Another cool feature is the ferrules are rustproof. That is quite thoughtful. You don’t have to worry about maintenance either. That is one less thing you’ve to think about.
When you’re done painting, just wash them with soap water and reshape them. That is all you have to do. Also, the included palette was also a nice touch, which not a lot of others include.
- Included palette
- High-quality bristles
- Equips a carrying case
- 12 pieces of complete set
- The fan brush seems to be a bit tricky to deal with
Facts Before Buying Brushes for Gouache
Before you giddy-up and buy all the best gouache brushes, there are some facts you need to understand. Here is a buying guide on what to look for when buying.
Types of Brushes for Gouache
When you’re first starting to paint with gouache, three brushes should do the job. You’ll want a large and small round brush and a broad brush. The broad brush will make doing large strokes much easier.
When it comes to the bristles, you can go for either natural hair or synthetic. But the synthetic ones are the best. A natural brush holds a lot of water. That may cause streaks.
With synthetic brushes, you can control the amount of water. This helps you avoid streaks completely with enough practice. Plus, synthetic brushes have a softer texture as well. This makes it easier to paint in those smaller details.
High Quality and Durability
When buying any brush, one of the things you need to make sure that it’s high-quality. This might seem pretty obvious. That’s because it is. But we mention this explicitly because although most brushes might seem they are the same, they are actually not.
Get ones that have high-quality synthetic bristles that will not fray or shed. This will make sure it lasts longer, and your paintings will come out perfect too. It’s a win-win.
Unless you’ve found the entrance to Hogwarts and mastered magic, you can’t put a spell on your brush to keep itself levitated. You’re going to need to hold the brush yourself.
If your brush isn’t ergonomic, it will become quite a chore to work with the brush. A lot of brushes have poor handle design, which makes them especially hard to keep a grip on them.
When buying one, make sure the handle is ergonomic and gives you a comfortable grip.
If you use the paint and the equipment properly, you can make quite astonishing masterpieces. People who have been working with gouache know just how versatile they are.
Keep in mind that you shouldn’t treat them as just watercolors. In fact, treat them for what they are and paint the way they are meant to be used. You’ll start making a quality painting in no time.
Easy to Care
After you’re done painting, you’ll probably want to keep the brushes safe and sound. Before that, you’ll need to clean it.
A lot of beginners tend to buy brushes that are not easy to clean. Or the bristles start to fray when you clean, and you can’t shape them.
At worst, the handle might start peeling off when it comes in contact with water. As you might imagine, that isn’t what anybody would like.
Some of the best brushes for gouache will be easy to clean and water-resistant. Pick one of those, and you’ll thank yourself later.
Some of the best brushes for gouache that we mentioned don’t only need to be used just for gouache paint either. They can be used with a lot of other paints too. You can use them with acrylic paint and watercolors too.
Another cool fact, you don’t need to limit your creativity to a canvas either. They can be used to paint small figurines, do artistic body and face painting as well.
Great Gift for Artists of Any Age
Psst! Let’s tell you a little secret. If you have a friend or a family member that loves to paint, get them a gouache brush, and you’ll immediately score brownie points with them.
Since they’re so versatile, artists and painters, no matter the skill, will love getting them as gifts.
If you happen to forget you’re supposed to give someone a gift, and you happen to know they love painting, these brushes will come in handy in more ways than one.
Beginner Gouache Brush Tips
If you’re new to painting with gouache, some beginner’s tips will help you make the most of your painting sessions.
1. Paint Consistency
Paint consistency with gouache is very important. It’s not watercolor. Add enough water to help it flow but not too much to keep it opaque.
2. Layering with Gouache Depends
A lot of people are under the impression that layering isn’t viable with gouache. That, however, isn’t all that true.
You can layer with gouache, but it depends on the quality of the paint, consistency, and also the paper.
3. Making Sure You Have the Right Color
When gouache dries, the color can change drastically. You might think you’re using a specific color only to find out it’s not the right shade after it had dried.
To avoid this, use a blank sheet of paper, do a couple of strokes and let it dry. Now, you can see what color it’ll be when it dries off.
Frequently Asked Questions
For gouache, synthetic brushes are the ones to go for. They add less water and are soft too.
You can make very fine detailing work with them. The shape of the brushes also matters in this case. Ideally, you would want to have a couple of different shapes of brushes.

Keep an angled brush, filbert, round-tip, and also a general round brush. They will be your most used brushes in most of the paintings that you do.
When it comes to an artist’s equipment, they hold a special place in their hearts. After all, that’s what they use to bring their imagination to fruition.
