During the summer of 1869 Monet and Renoir set up their easels outside of “La Grenouillere”, a popular working-class establishment along the banks of the Seine River on the Ile de Croissy. The available amenities included wooden bathing huts, a small circular island, and a floating barge cafe. An advertisement for rowboat rentals (“location canots”) is painted on the side of the barge.
